Job Description
Custodian of Safety -works in a safe manner, adhering to SMI Safety Policies and local regulatory requirements
Operates the process computer-controlled equipment when required.
Maintains routine contact with customer personnel regarding quantity and quality needs.
Manages, tests and identifies incoming raw materials and lab materials for adherence to specification, either by actual testing or by review of the material’s Certificate of Analysis.
Manufactures in-process materials and finished products by computer control in compliance with Work Instructions.
Conducts all QA testing in accordance with established, approved procedures.
Conducts routine calibrations of laboratory instruments and conducts routine calibrations/standardisations of process instrumentation in accordance with established, approved procedures and schedule
Controls and corrects non-conforming in-process material and final products in accordance with written procedures
Understands and uses statistical techniques where appropriate
Lead all electrical and instrumentation work on site including breakdowns and planned maintenance, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance.
Lead /manage contractor activities on site.
Participates in and embraces SMI’s Operations Excellence Programme
Perform maintenance activities as needed. Assures that equipment is operating correctly. Follows preventative maintenance activities according to schedule and corporate standards
Follows and implements the principles of 5S, Standard Work, Daily Management and Problem-Solving
Well organised, trustworthy individual that is able to perform at a high level with minimal supervision.
Drive and maintain Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) programme on site.
Participates in and embraces SMI’s Operations Excellence Programme
Works on a rotating shift basis
Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Provide Relief for Shift Operations technicians during leave cover
Respond to callout after hour for all plant support.
Qualifications & Experience
Matric / Grade 12.
National Diploma in instrumentation and/or Electrical Engineering.
Trade Tested Electrical & Instrument Mechanician would be an advantage
Minimum 3 years’ experience in
LV (low voltage) applications
Instrumentation
Experience in MV (medium voltage) applications will be an added advantage)
Experience in mechanical repairs and plant operations will be an advantage
Knowledge in Siemens control systems.
Proficiency in use of computers, including MS programmes.
Must be able to work unsupervised, with good technical skills.
