The Role

Apprentice support Artisan in learning how to make precision tools (such as jigs, moulds and dyes), which are then used in the manufacturing process to make products. They assist with and monitor these tools to identify, and implement, any necessary modification or repairs.

Requirements

• Qualifications required to fulfil the role
  • Grade 12 results, with the following subjects Mathematics, Physical Science and English.
  • Fully completed N4 in trade of choice is a requirement.
  • Fully completed N6 in all relevant subjects of the trade of choice is an advantage.

• Specific Work Experience, Knowledge and Skills required to fulfil the role
  • Need accuracy and pay great attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Enjoy technical work.
  • Physically fit.
  • Good hand-eye coordination.
  • Able to work as part of a team.
  • Able to work independently.

Key Accountabilities

Safety:

• Ensure that LOTO procedures are adhered to at all times.
• Ensure that all disposals are done in line with Plant policies.
• Ensure work areas including equipment in use are safe, and all EHS programs are adhered to at all times.
• Report and investigate any accident and incident.
• Ensure that all statutory inspections on plant and equipment are done and records kept safely.
• Participate in toolbox talks.
• Raise SMATS every month as per Safety requirements.

Quality:

• Ensure work/activities carried out adhere to Engineering standards.
• Ensure our products meet quality standards through equipment reliability improvements and costs.
• Implement plans and carry out activities to reduce costs and improve productivity.
• Assist in reducing variance cost through equipment reliability improvements and participate in Saint-Gobain’s Loss Reduction Model.
