One of the program’s primary collaborators is the South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA), a member-led organization that encourages collaboration and the sharing of best practices in the solar photovoltaic industry. Candidates can register with SAPVIA to check their green card status after completing the training.
Ability to train
To improve training capacity, there are conversations with TVET colleges and universities. Through SAPVIA, there is also a conversation with the private trainers to support TVETS’ ability to deliver. Only TVET colleges are able to mass-produce training. The largest group trained by private providers was up to 20 candidates. This will prevent the availability of a pool of trained human capability through widespread training.
As a result, not all 6000 will receive training at the same time. Cohorts will be trained together. The first batch will be processed in June, and they will spend around 8 to 12 weeks in training. They will then proceed to receive practical training from their host employers. The second cohort will be enrolled as soon as the theoretical portion is over. They will follow the same procedure, which includes 8–12 weeks of theory followed by practical experience. R175 million has been spent on the program overall.
Implementing the Program
The Gauteng City Regional Academy (GCRA) will carry out the curriculum in all five of Gauteng’s corridors. The GCRA will visit numerous places, accompanied by various training providers, to make sure that young people may immediately submit an online application. Following the processing of the applications, those who have been selected for shortlisting will be announced in each Region and prepared to begin the program. To make sure that they are committed, young people must first complete a “boot camp of earning and learning opportunities readiness” before being sent to the beginning of the training program based on how well they performed there.

ers with entrepreneurial and business skills that will enable them to launch new firms in the
expanding energy industry.
The training program will consist of two parts, the first of which is fundamental and covers the installation, maintenance, and repair of various solar energy-related components with a focus on hybrid SPV systems. The second component is for a more experienced audience and is geared toward young people who wish to start a career in the green economy. It will result in certification as an energy efficiency audit technician and call for a foundational level of study, such as a Le., BTech or equivalent. The qualification is a level 5 NQF qualification that has been approved by the industry.
The Project’s duration and training
A total of 6000 students will be enrolled in the project during the course of its three-year (or 36-month) implementation. These will be trained in various cohorts rather than all at once.
Both theoretical and practical or in-service training will be offered by the project. The theoretical portion, which focuses on developing technical abilities, will last 8–12 weeks. A job-based learning program lasting 6 to 8 months will supplement this by allowing candidates to gain real-world work experience.
Requirements for eligibility
Youth in South Africa (under the age of 35) are encouraged to apply and take advantage of this opportunity. Candidates must have graduated from a Gauteng institution after 2016. A TVET college N3+ electrical qualification and/or a technical matriculation are advantages. Ideally, applicants should also be interested in a career in green technology, electrical work, or energy efficiency.
