PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Artisan: Electrical is responsible for repairs and maintenance of all electrical installations within the Smelter Business Unit.
The role holder will form an integral part in the execution of day-to-day electrical work and the execution of electrical planned maintenance.
The incumbent will account to the Foreman: Electrical & Instrumentation and will be required to work rotational stand-by with another Artisan to cover the Smelter business unit.
MAJOR RESPOSIBILITIES:
PRODUCTION TARGETS AND DELIVERABLES
- Execute electrical planned maintenance within specified time and give feedback to Electrical & Instrumentation Foreman.
- Promptly attend to any electrical breakdowns and call-outs as and when required.
- Conduct the work within acceptable quality to improve plant availability, reliability and general housekeeping.
- Manage all maintenance work orders issued on time to ensure that weekly and monthly KPIs are met.
- Raise notifications to repair findings during maintenance inspections.
- Assists in cost reduction initiatives by reducing waste and improving efficiencies.
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
- Self-management by:
– Compilation of own PDP in conjunction with line manager.
– Attend training interventions as per approved PDP.
– Ensure that you remain disciplined in line with the company’s code of conduct.
– Attend statutory training as required.
- Managing others by:
– Giving direction to assistants as may be required by your Foreman.
– Ensuring that all unsafe conditions are reported on time to prevent any incidents or accidents and notifications raised to restore effected equipment to safe condition.
OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCIES
- Complete weekly SAP PM work orders on time and give feedback.
- Execute all work within expected acceptable levels of quality.
- Participate in Risk Assessments based on external and internal influences.
- Participate in incident investigations as may be required.
- Report any incidents to the supervisor and/or via the pink cards system.
- Participate in any inspection or audit as may be required.
SAFETY COMPLIANCE
- Monitor and share Company-wide similarities/learning opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with any instruction given with regards to Occupational Health and Safety.
SHEQ
- Comply with and ensure that all health and safety rules are met and act pro-actively by addressing any safety concerns which may be harmful to self or other employees.

- Adhere to PPE requirements as per area of work.
- Ensure statutory maintenance tasks are executed on time and reports completed, submitted, and filed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
- Minimum qualification of N3 is required or equivalent with a recognised Trade Test certificate as an Electrician.

- Understanding of SAP maintenance system will be advantage.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Preference will be given to a candidate with 3 to 5 years years working experience in a similar role.
- Have minimum 3 years’ experience in Medium Voltage Switching
- Ability to read and interpret drawings.
- Design basic electrical circuits and drawings
- Ability to identify and proactively address electrical faults.
- Knowledge and adherence to the permit to work system.
- Industrial Power Electronic knowledge – Repairs are done on control boards to electronic component level.
- Preferable work on Rectification systems (rectifiers and Induction Furnace)
- Equipment maintenance knowledge to manage and perform scheduled, pre-planned and emergency breakdowns.
- Maintenance scheduling knowledge to schedule and plan maintenance.
- Installation knowledge-Understand the dynamics of new installations (Electrical Installations)
- Incident and investigation knowledge
- Fault finding skills-Able to identify and solve problems on machinery.
