POSITION: MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT
Purpose of the role:
ell know hotel in the heart of the Herlderberg is looking for a maintenance assistant to help us achieve and maintain our high standards. The ideal candidate will have experience in building maintenance and repair, as well as a working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. He or she will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks to keep our facilities in top condition, including but not limited to: painting, carpentry, drywall repair, and general cleaning. The maintenance assistant will also be responsible for troubleshooting and repairing any issues that arise.
Duties & Responsibilities (not limited to):
Assist the Maintenance Manager with the day-to-day operations of the maintenance department
Help to ensure that all equipment and machinery is properly maintained and serviced in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications
Assist with the development and implementation of preventive maintenance programs
Keep accurate records of all maintenance activities, including work orders and parts used
Monitor inventory levels of spare parts and supplies, and place orders as needed
Respond to emergency maintenance requests in a timely manner
Perform routine repairs and general upkeep of the facility, grounds, and equipment
Assist with the installation of new equipment and machinery
Help to maintain a safe and clean work environment
Adhere to all company policies and procedures
Other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Manager
Maintain a presentable, professional and courteous demeanour at all times
· Above average knowledge of electrical fault finding on single and three phase installations. Good working knowledge of electrical testing equipment.
· Basic plumbing skills e.g. repair of burst copper pipes, replacing washers and clearing blockages in sewer lines and toilets.
· Basic carpentry skills
· Basic painting skills
· Fault finding on kitchen appliances and air conditioning systems
· Ability to walk long distances and carry objects up to 25 kg
Maintaining records of maintenance activities and technician performance, such as updating spreadsheets or databases with details regarding completed jobs
Following safety protocols to protect oneself while working on equipment or machinery that could be dangerous if handled improperly
Performing basic repairs on plumbing systems, electrical wiring, heating and cooling units, or other building systems
Recording work order requests and ensuring that they are fulfilled by the appropriate technicians or contractors
Cleaning work sites before, during, and after construction or repairs have been completed
Performing basic carpentry tasks such as cutting boards to specified sizes using power saws
Maintaining inventory of supplies needed for various projects, such as lumber, nails, paint, and tools
Following specific safety guidelines when working with hazardous materials, including asbestos or lead paint
Scheduling and coordinating work crews to ensure that all tasks are completed
Required Skills and Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Proven experience in a maintenance or repair role
Working knowledge of hand and power tools, as well as general maintenance equipment
Excellent problem-solving skills
Strong attention to detail
· Willingness to work shifts and over weekends and holidays
· Own transport or reliable transport to commute to work outside normal office hours
· Resides in close proximity of the Lord Charles Hotel
· Clear criminal record
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: R10,000.00 – R11,000.00 per month
