INVITATION TO YOUTH FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE ARTISAN DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME THROUGH THE EXPANDED PUBLIC WORKS PROGRAMME (EPWP)
The Free State Department of Public Works and Infrastructure is embarking on an Artisan Development Programme through the National Youth Service Programme (NYS).
The National Youth Service Programme is an EPWP learnership with focus on built environment sector targeting development of candidates towards qualified artisanship in infrastructure projects. The Free State Department of Public Woks and Infrastructure hereby invites skilled and semi-skilled to participate in the Artisan Development Programme for a period of 12 months.

SELECTION CRITERIA
A. Project Selection Criteria
Applications will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
• 18 and 35 years (60%)
• 35 years and above (40%)
• Meeting qualification requirements as per paragraph B, C &D
• At least 60% must be female.
• At least 2% should be disabled
• The preference will be given to
applicants residing in the area where the project is implemented.
B. Requirements
• Persons with valid SA ID Book and Proof of Banking Details
• Resides in the area where the project is implemented
• Be willing to attend accredited training • Be willing to enter into contract
• Interest and passion for infrastructure sector or Built Environment sector • Participants will be required to undertake Health Assessment
C. Qualifications and Experience:
• Matric/ Grade 12 certificate or Grade 10, with at least Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy and Science or relevant N Qualifications in Engineering Studies, particularly building/quantity surveying/civil/mechanical/electrical and related subjects. Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Qualified artisans with relevant skills are also encouraged to apply, they will play a role of overseeing, mentoring and guiding the developing Artisans.

D. The programme will focus on the following trades:
• Plumbing
• Painting
• Welding
• Bricklaying & plastering
• Electrical
• Carpentry & Joinery
• Flooring & Tiling
• Landscaping & Glazing
• Mechanical
E. Objective
• Assist the Artisans with execution of technical work/ maintenance work. Carry out the maintenance work under the guidance of a qualified Artisan, including the buildings and infrastructure. Preparation of material lists. Maintain equipment, tools and machinery used.
• To prepare participants to undergo designated trade test at the end of the programme so they become qualified Artisans.
F. Submission
Application forms will be available at the Regional offices and have to be completed in full. Applicants MUST attach certified copies of their green bar-coded ID document and certified copies of their qualifications to be attached to the application forms.
