Reporting to ;Senior Service Manager
purpose of the job:
An apprentice works towards a technical qualification using theory and experience within a specific mechanical environment; endeavors to learn from experience in various technical repair and maintenance tasks. An apprentice assists with technical work in the workshop and in the field guided and coached by qualified technical staff. The apprentice aims to qualify within a prescribed period to become a fully-fledged qualified mechanic in the field of earthmoving machinery repairs and maintenance.
Key areas of responsibility;
• Gaining experience through assistance on the following:
Servicing of various types of capital equipment o Rebuilding of engines, transmissions and differentials
-Repairing Injector pumps and assembly
– Auto electrical repairs and fault-finding analysis
-Hydraulic systems and fitting of hydraulic hoses o Welding
-Various measurements on pressures and clearances as per technical repair manuals – And other specific technical modules as prescribed by the governing body, MerSETA
• Administration and gaining experience to complete the following documents: Submitting and completing daily experience sheets for filing
– Accurate time sheet completion
– Field Service Breakdown reports Condition reports
– Tool registers
– Completion of the MerSETA training records for submission to qualify for trade test
Knowledge and skills needed for the lob:
Minimum Required Education
• N2/Matric: Subjects
– Mathematics (Maths Literacy will not apply)
– English
